“I consider a spontaneous trip to Berlin to be the most positive, the Brandenburg Gate is a must-see. I recommend taking a walk to the gate, along the way you can see many beautiful buildings and statues.”

Brandenburg Gate
Brandenburger Tor
Restored 18th-century gate & landmark with 12 Doric columns topped by a classical goddess statue.
About the landmark
A symbol of Berlin,
carved in sandstone.
Standing at the western end of Unter den Linden, the Brandenburg Gate is one of Europe's most recognisable monuments. Commissioned by King Frederick William II of Prussia, the gate was built between 1788 and 1791 as a sign of peace and is crowned by the Quadriga — the goddess Victoria driving a four-horse chariot.
Twelve Doric columns, six on each side, form five passages once reserved by class. For decades the gate stood inside the no-man's land of the Berlin Wall; today it is a place of celebration, demonstration and quiet reflection in the heart of Mitte.
Plan your visit
Open to all, every hour of the day.
Pariser Platz is a public square — there are no tickets and no closing time. Come at dawn for soft light and an empty plaza, or after dark when the columns are lit against the Berlin sky.
Hours
Open 24 hours, daily. The square is freely accessible year-round.
Best time to visit
Early morning or late evening for fewer crowds. Weekdays are quieter than weekends and public holidays.
